“1971” DODGE CHALLENGER CONVERTIBLE WITH A 426 HEMI AND A 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANS
THE ORIGIN STORY -1970- Dodge introduced the Challenger as their upper end Pony Car in 1970. However they produced only 9 Challenger Convertibles with the 426 HEMI, 4 with automatics and 5 with four speed manual gearboxes. Most buyers of the HEMI Challenger wanted a hardtop.
-1971- Dodge decided to reduce the options available for the 1971 Challenger Convertible and eliminated most of the performance options including the ability to order the 426 HEMI Engine. Therefore in 1971 there were “ZERO” 426 HEMI Challenger Convertibles factory produced! Dodge also made 1971 the last year the Challenger would be available in a Convertible thus ending its production after only Two Years. By limiting the Challenger Convertible production to 1,857 units Dodge made the 1971 Challenger one of the Rarest E-Body Convertibles produced.
THE RENOVATION GOAL
To restore this 1971 Challenger Convertible to what it would look like if it had been offered by Dodge with a 426 HEMI Performance Package and a four speed manual transmission in 1971. Coupling of the 426 HEMI with an E-Body resulted in the Zenith of muscle car excess! Since Dodge did not offer this car in 1971 we decided to build our own. Approximately 1,500 Miles since restoration (Mainly Car Shows) Never Raced
