1966 SHELBY MUSTANG GT350 'PAXTON' Supercharged
This great car has been on display in the Mount Dora Museum of Speed, near Orlando, for the last 16 years until we retired & closed in 2019. Then stored in an A.C. environment. According to the SAAC Registry-1997 it originally was built in Guardsman Blue/ No Stripe/ with the Fiberglass-Steel Frame Hood, 14” Magnum Wheels, Over-ride Traction Bars and a No- Shelf Package. Delivered 5/31/66 to El Paso Auto Center (Ford Dealer # 173) in El Paso, TX. It then, Sold to Grover Johnson 11/26/66. It saw 3 more owners from 1966-1987 passing through 2 dealers until it was purchased & graced with a full body-off resto. by Zigler Coachworks in 1987. According to the S.A.A.C. Registry it was purchased by a SAAC member in Canoga Park, CA in 1988 and was mounted with a Paxton Supercharger. By 1994-97, it had the color-change to Wimbledon White with Blue Lemans Stripes and set it up as a “R Model” Spec road car for Weekend Rally's.
Sent to Dralle Engineering Race Car Preparation in Los Angeles, CA. They did a complete 'build' of the mechanics/motor (with receipts). It recvd. the “R Model” Valance , Comp Spring package, Trans. Rebuild, correct Rollbar, correct Racing Bucket Seats , rare 'Vented' Rear Plexiglas Window, a 22 Gal. Fuel Cell, AVIAD GT350 Oil Pan, Trunk -mounted Battery, Backseat Shelf, correct oil-Cooler, Side Exhaust, correct 15”/ 8-8 ½ American Racing Mags w/ Non-drilled centers ('88 inv. $1840.25), new Koni Adj. Shocks, Trunk Pin, 3:70 to 4:11 Detroit Locker Rear, 5Pt. Racing Seatbelts, and Dash Gauges w/ built-in Tach and more.. (Orig. Tach is incl.). It also comes with a set of original (used- for Shows), now hard to source, Blue Streak Goodyear Tires. It's fitted with the original rare 'wood' Shelby Riveted Steering Wheel, Paxton under-dash Pressure Gauges, and an autographed Glove Box Lid by Carroll Shelby. It was subsequently issued vintage racing Logbooks running at Laguna Seca in 1996 and Willow Springs in 1997, ( Original V.A.R.A. Log Book and Vintage Sports Car Driver Assoc. included). It was purchased by another admirer in 1997 who displayed the car at Shows and ran it briefly in Illinois up to 2003. With the value rising dramatically, he chose to retire it and trade it in to us in 2004 on our original, documented 1965 “R” Model. The Supercharger was rebuilt by Paxton in Ca. Also worth mentioning, the car retains the original Lower Blower Box Vent, correct Black “Cobra” Blower Box & the Paxton unit is date coded.
The doc's provided us when purchased include copies of the original 'shipping report' 6/1/66 by Shelby American's staff member 'Carol Stevens' stating “SFM 6S2168 “Blu-Pax Unit”, shipped side-by-side with “6S021” Drag Unit, 6 other GT350's and 3 Shelby Cobra's. It also has the Rail Delivery Manifest #793 to El Paso Ford stating $4436.57, priced over comparable GT 350'S. This car features a copy of the original letter from Rick Kopec, National Director of SAAC stating this car is indeed a matching SFM 6S2168 documented as correct Ford to Shelby Mustang GT350 (see Registry page 485 & 539). Its is not concourse but, still shows extremely well. It was displayed at the Winter Park Concours, invited twice, and it won First Place in it's class at the 2003 Detroit Autorama as well as many other local car shows since.
