1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass

Description:

Beautiful 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme loaded with options. Fantastic color combination, great-running 350 with automatic transmission. Very well documented. A very high quality A-Body Olds ready to enjoy right away!

Theres something about the Oldsmobiles that just feels different. This attractive 1972 Olds Cutlass somehow seems more solid, better assembled, and just plain better than a comparable Chevy or Pontiac. And thanks to someone spending a whole lot of money on this car, its easily the best weve seen. The sparkling Saddle Bronze paint almost has an iridescent look and hugs the muscular Cutlass bodywork extremely well. Add in the white vinyl top (with no signs of issues underneath) and the pinstripes that highlight the fender line, and you get a car that looks sporty yet upscale at the same time. You can see at a glance just how straight the bodywork really is and if you rap your knuckles on any panel, it rings true in a way that only original, undamaged sheetmetal really can. Gaps are excellent throughout, suggesting that the Oldsmobiles got a little extra attention on the assembly line, and all the chrome is either excellent original stuff or properly refinished to stock specs. Youll note the emblems are crisp, the fine mesh grille is undamaged, and the satin black accents that are unique to the 72 models are properly done. This is a really nice car.

Inside you get a matching Saddle Tan interior that appears to be entirely original and in fantastic condition. The bench seats are still firm and comfortable, the door panels dont even show a divot where the drivers elbow might have rested, and the dash pad isnt cracked or sun damaged. Nice! The carpets have probably been replaced simply because they look too fresh to be 50 years old, but the whole interior has a high-quality look and feel thats very appealing. The 4-spoke steering wheel helps with the Cutlasss sporty demeanor and this car is equipped with a full set of gauges, including a working Tic-Toc-Tac. Other options include power windows, factory A/C, a tilt steering column, and an AM/FM radio, along with all the standard features that made Oldsmobiles special. The headliner overhead is surely original, too, and it shows no discoloration or split seams, and the factory-installed shoulder belts are handing right where they should. Theres also a good-sized trunk with original mats and a matching full-sized wheel and tire assembly.

Oldsmobiles 350 cubic inch "Rocket" V8 shared nothing with its corporate cousins of the same displacement, and has its own personality. Theres a distinct sound to the Olds powerplant that we find appealing. Theres also a good hit of low-end torque and thanks to a few sensible upgrades like a modern Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, its surely a bit more potent than when it was new. It starts quickly and easily, idles properly, and pulls the sporty coupe around without much effort at all. There are a few chrome dress-up items under the hood to go with the factory gold engine enamel, and anything that was removed or replaced is included with the car, including the original air cleaner assembly. Proper maintenance means that it drives like it should, stays cool on hot days, and never gets fussy-its an Oldsmobile, after all. The TH350 3-speed automatic shifts crisply but not harshly and with 2.73 gears out back, its a great highway cruiser (in fact, this car was driven to our shop from New York without incident). The suspension is obviously more luxury than sport, but its competent and comfortable for cruising and the power front disc brakes are plenty strong. New equipment includes a fresh dual exhaust system, recent gas tank, and little stuff like shocks and brake components, so its 100% ready to enjoy. Color-matched SSII wheels always look awesome on these cars, with these wrapped in 225/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials all around.

Documentation is extensive, including the original window sticker, a copy of the build sheet, and all the factory owners manuals mounted in a display. It also includes service, body, and assembly manuals, plus a good cache of spare parts.

This is easily the nicest Olds Cutlass weve ever featured and probably the best A-Body of any kind that has been in our showroom. Its just beautifully maintained and the combination of luxury options and sporty driving manners makes the Cutlass just as appealing today as it was in 1972. If youre looking for a high-quality car that doesnt break the bank, something that stands out at shows (this car is a multiple award winner), and that you can enjoy driving on a regular basis, look no further-your car is here.
