1963 Chevrolet Impala

Description:

1963 Chevrolet Impala SS

The incredible history of the legendary 1963 Chevy Impala Super Sport 327 has made it one of the most desired collector cars. This is a all numbers matching true SS.

The legendary 1963 Chevy Impala Super Sport (SS) 327ci. These are immediately recognizable representing decades of devotion by fans. As you admire and take a deeper look pay attention to the remarkable auto history.

Chevy was dominating the market in 1963 with over 50% of sales. Chevrolet's latest weapon in the sales wars was the 1963 Impala SS, featuring a handsomely redesigned body with the forward-prow rectangular mesh anodized aluminum grille with quad haedlamps housed in individual bezels. The 1963's knife-edged creases are level and parallel from nose to tail. What really makes the SS is the bright engine-turned (swirl pattern) aluminum trim accent. There is no mistaken with the tail panel, which features three round taillamps per side on the Impala and the SS option brought with its engine-turned aluminum panels in the rear cover. The emblems on the front fenders denote the engine in this case "V" and crossed flags for the 327. Impala SS was the top-of-the-line Chevrolet.

The famous 327ci is a cast-alloy-iron block with a forged crankshaft and connecting rods, and 4.00 x 3.25-inch bore and stroke. The 250hp at 4,400 RPM and 350-lb.ft. of torque at 2,800 RPM a 10.5:1 compression ratio. This is a number matching true Impala SS. Mated to an automatic Powerglide with the first-gear ratio 1.76:1. Connected to the 8.375-inch Hotchkiss-type rearend with 3.36 gear.

Riding on a 119-inch wheelbase, welded-steel, box-section X-frame, the front suspension consist of unequal-lenth upper and lower control arms, heavy-duty coil springs, shocks and a .6875-inch anti-roll bar. The solid rear axle located by a pair of lower control arms, a single upper arm and a .750-inch lateral control bar, panhard bar, that runs from the axle housing to the frame. Heavy-duty coil springs and shocks. Braking is accomplished with 11 x 2.75-inch front and 11 x 2.00-inch rear drums with power assist.

This is an optional power steering. The hooded instrument panel has engine-turned inserts to each side and on the lower level. This was an SS option. The upholstery is done in saddle with wide aluminum trim wrapped up the bucket seats sides and over the tops. The SS is done in a stunning metallic Marine Aqua Poly (code 919). All the chrome and bright work have been restored. All the rubber and seals are done. This is a turnkey ready to cruise.
