1954 Jaguar Mkvii Saloon

Description:

*1954 Jaguar MKVII Saloon*In the 1950s, Jaguar was on top of the world, with victories in international racing and some of the most desirable sports and luxury cars on the market. In 1950, they unveiled their newest luxury sedan, the MKVII, which was powered by the venerable XK DOHC inline-6 found in the XK120 sports car and C-Type racing car. This 1954 MKVII is a beautiful example of the ultimate in 1950s English luxury, and it was in single long-term ownership for nearly 50 years. Finished in two-tone of Pewter and silver, this MKVII is said to have been shown at the 1953 Paris Motor Show, and a chrome Paris decklid badge lends credibility. From 1974 until 2021, a single local enthusiast owned this Jaguar. Although it has never been fully restored, mechanical and cosmetic work was carried out as needed under his care. That being said, this car has never needed a complete overhaul to keep it in exceptional condition, with a Best of Show win at the Kirkland Classic Car Show in 2018. The flowing body on this car looks outstanding in the two-tone paint and is fitted with unique features like Trafficator turn signals, rear wheel spats and front and rear vent windows. With its tall chrome grille and exaggerated fenders, this car has a presence on the road not rivaled by many other cars. The interior is wonderfully luxurious, with supple gray leather covering the front and rear seats as well as the door cards. As the car has never been completely restored, the interior retains its English charm, with the leather lightly worn in all the right places and the headliner is absolutely perfect. Beautiful burl wood makes up the dashboard and sits atop all 4 doors- with the wood trim in both rear doors containing chrome ashtrays. What will amaze you when you get into this car is the craftsmanship that went into producing it, as well as the care that it took to keep it looking this good for 70 years. One of the big selling points of the MKVII when it first came out was the addition of the coveted XK inline-6 out of the XK120. Pop the hood and the legendary 3.5-liter inline-6 stares back at you, fitted with a pair of SU carburetors that help the engine produce a claimed 160 horsepower. When new, these big sedans were some of the fastest luxury cars on the road, capable of speeds in excess of 100 mph- which meant that cruising all day at 70-80 mph, the car was barely breaking a sweat. In this example, the engine is backed up by a durable 4-speed manual gearbox- although the MKVII was the first Jaguar available with an automatic gearbox, the manual fit the car and made it a remarkably nice performer. Speaking of performance, Jaguar campaigned the MKVII in the period- finding great success in Production Touring Car racing at Silverstone. Driven by famous names like Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn, MKVIIs won the race five years running and twice took all of the top 3 positions on the podium.Jaguar's famous slogan Grace, Pace and Space originated around the time of the MKVII sedan and it is hard to think there is any vehicle that better embodies those three words. From its stunning exterior design to the luxurious cabin and its high-performance engine and racing pedigree, the MKVII is a truly unique and rarely seen classic that will be the star of the show-wherever you take it.*Key Features* * Long Term Local Ownership * 3.5-Liter Inline 6 * 2X SU Carburetors * 160 Horsepower * 4-Speed Manual * Dual Fuel Tanks * Full Smiths Gauges * Telescoping Steering Column * Wood Interior Inlays * Wire Wheels * Fog Lamps * Trafficators*Additional Information* * Original Owners Manual * Period Jaguar Sales Literature * Service Records Dating Back to the 1970s * Car Cover * Battery Tender * Best of Show TrophyFor more information on this 1954 Jaguar MKVII or any of our 150+ High-Performance, Exotic, Luxury, and Special Interest Cars always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or feel free to drop by our 40,000+ sq ft of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance and Collectible Automobiles.
