The C4 Corvette was the first complete redesign for the Corvette since 1963, resulting in the famed 1-year lapse of Corvette production in 1983. During the C4 reign, Chevrolet focused on performance and technological enhancements to the car. Several special editions were released during C4 production, culminating in the final-year production of the 1996 Grand Sport. The Grand Sport was a nod to the original Grand Sport models produced in 1963. A total of 1,000 Grand Sports were produced (810 coupes and 190 convertibles) and the model carried several items that made it stand out amongst other '96 Vettes. A high-performance LT4 V8 pushed 330hp and the car carried signature looks. The exterior of the Grand Sports were all adorned in Admiral Blue with white stripes and carried two signature red stripes on the front left wheel arch. The interior was available in black or red and carried the new C4 electronic dashboard with liquid crystal displays for the speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge.
This '96 Grand Sport was recently acquired by Motor City Classic Cars from the reported second-owner. It is immeditaly obvious that this car has been babied its entire life. All around the exterior and throughout the interior, it is evident that this car has been garage kept and not introduced to the elements. With just over 24,000 original miles on the odometer, this Corvette presents like-new. Originally purchased new in Alabama, this Corvette has lived its entire life in the south. Being driven approximately 3,000 miles per year since new, this car was undoubtedly viewed by both owners as a special item that was to be cared for and driven sparingly.
