The vehicle is basically unchanged since these pictures were taken, as
it has not been driven since 2022. We have a new child in our lives
and this car has no seatbelts or modern safety features- hence the
reason to sell. It has however, been under cover in the winter in
storage.
The previous owner of this vehicle said it came from Montreal and then
he bought it from somebody in Kentville about 30 years ago. He only
ever used it for going to classic meets. He did, however, have it
resprayed twice from the original blue. First time was cream. The
second time was the off-white that we see on it. Now it's a
non-standard color, but looks good on the car.
The straight six, 2.7L/ 169 cu in engine runs very well with no smoke
and I'm sure will start up perfectly once we reinstall the battery and
reintroduce some fuel. I had the exhaust welded last season for some
perforations, but other than new spark plugs, leads, rotor cap,
starter solenoid, points and a tune up, we have not had to do anything
with the engine in the years we have had the car.
Elsewhere, we have replaced one rear wheel cylinder, and bought new
rubbers for the trunk, doors and hood (parts are very easy to get for
Studebaker a from an excellent online source) I will fit these or
include them with the sale.
The bodywork of the car needs attention, it is not rusty or perforated
as far as I can see, but the respray needs to be block sanded and cut
to really make it look it's best. Most of the chrome could do with
resurfacing, but chrome parts are so cheap for these (e.g headlight
bezels 90USD) that it may be easier to just exchange everything and
claim the value of your returns parts with the Studebaker parts
supplier.
Overall, this is a useable everyday classic. It is in need of many
detail jobs but with the newer paint, solid engine and wonderful blue,
all remade interior (unique to this car and specially created for it -
the originals were pastel cloth seat covers) I think this can easily
become an excellent example of this extremely rare and beautiful car
(they only had the spinner nose and optional starlight wrap around
back windshield in one year, 1950.
