1962 Buick Skylark Convertible. Nice fun little rag top in all red, with a powered black vinyl top! 1962 was the first year for the stand-alone Skylark model, and the first year the convertible was offered. Some neat innovations were introduced in the car " something Buick engineers always strived for in the 50s and 60s. Powered by an all ALUMINUM 215 cubic inch V8 (3.5 liter) and topped with a 2-bbl carb, this little 8 made 190 hp (gross) and pushed power through a Buick designed 2-speed Dynaflow twin turbine automatic transmission (not the same as a power glide). Buick ran the aluminum engine for a number of years, eventually dropping it for a conventional steel block engine. But the engine design was sold to Rover UK and went on to power decades worth of cars across the pond up until 2004! The engine was installed by Morgan, Triumph, Land Rover, MGB and other European manufacturers and was even used for rally racing. Back to the Buick, this one runs very well and also features power steering, and power brakes " options not often found on such small entry level cars in the early 60s. The engine bay is fairly straight forward and neat and tidy. The car appears to be rust free and was repainted at some point in driver quality paint. Its nice enough certainly to cruise around into any cars and coffee. Chrome is in good shape and most of the other trim is original " likely because there are no reproductions available on the market. Its actually quite a small car and features 13 tires with factory original hub caps. The convertible top works well and is in good condition, including the rear window. Were working on finding side mirrors, which appear to be missing. The interior is finished in all red and the upholstery and carpets are in good shape. Being a Buick, everything is trimmed just a little nicer than the lower priced cars in the field. The dash is unique with a pod-shaped stand-alone clock. A push button AM radio and working heater are right where they should be. All gauges appear to work on the car. The trunk has a spare, but a big of light corrosion has shown through the floor coating " an easy restoration job to get it looking right again. The car shows 84,000 miles, but with only 5 digits on the odometer, true milage is unknown. Easy and fun to drive, and a unique car to cruise around in under the summer sun. Certainly not a lot of these little Buicks left around at all! If youre looking for simple fun in a standout car, this one is for you!
