The Ford Fairlane was introduced for the 1955 model year as Ford's full-size offering positioned between the smaller Ford models and the top-of-the-line Crown Victoria. By 1966, the Fairlane had entered its fifth generation and had been transformed into an intermediate-sized automobile, offering a combination of sporty styling, practical dimensions, and strong V8 performance. The Fairlane 500 represented one of the more upscale trim levels in the lineup and was offered in a variety of body styles, including hardtops and convertibles. The 1966 model year featured clean, sculpted body lines and a distinctive grille that helped give the Fairlane a sporty and refined appearance. With its available V8 engines and performance-oriented options, the Fairlane became an increasingly popular choice for enthusiasts looking for a capable and stylish Ford.
