The Marmon Roosevelt was introduced for the 1929 model year as a lower-priced companion to Marmon's established line of luxury automobiles. Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, the Roosevelt was designed to bring Marmon's engineering and styling to a broader market. It was powered by a 201.9 cubic inch L-Head inline 8-cylinder engine and featured conventional rear-wheel drive with a 3-speed manual transmission. The Roosevelt was produced during an important period in the American automobile industry as manufacturers increasingly adopted eight-cylinder engines and offered more sophisticated automobiles to buyers. Marmon's reputation for engineering and innovation made the Roosevelt an interesting entry into the growing market for affordable eight-cylinder automobiles during the late 1920s.
