1931 Ford Model A Roadster

Description:

This handsome 1931 Roadster represents the final evolution of Henry Ford's revolutionary successor to the Model T, embodied with the spirit of the early American automobile that came known as the Ford Model A. Finished in an attractive combination of Ford Maroon with Black fenders, belt molding, and reveals, this example is accented by Vermillion pinstriping and matching wire spoke wheels, creating a period-correct presentation that is both elegant and unmistakably Model A. Introduced for the 1928 model year, the Model A represented a dramatic advancement over the Model T, bringing Ford customers modern conveniences and substantially improved performance while retaining the simplicity and affordability that had defined the company. By 1931, the Model A had reached its final and most refined form. The familiar styling had been continually developed throughout its production run, and the 1931 models featured a more graceful radiator shell, revised proportions, and distinctive stainless-steel radiator shell trim. Ford produced more than four million Model As during its four-year production run before production ultimately gave way to the new V-8-powered Model 18 for 1932, making the 1931 Model A the closing chapter of one of Ford Motor Company's most significant prewar automobiles. This Roadster showcases a very nice older restoration completed to period standards and has been under the care of its most recent collector-owner for approximately 11 years. Although the former owner was unable to provide specific details regarding the restoration work performed prior to his acquisition, the physical condition and consistency of the automobile suggest a comprehensive, nut-and-bolt renovation encompassing all major components. The result is an exceptionally well-presented Model A that retains the authentic character and mechanical simplicity of Ford's original design. Power is provided by the correct 200.5-cubic-inch inline four-cylinder engine, breathing through its Zenith updraft carburetor and paired with Ford's familiar three-speed manual transmission. The engine compartment presents exceptionally well, and the car continues to run and operate wonderfully, delivering the engaging, straightforward driving experience for which the Model A is so well known. Upon arrival at the St. Louis Car Museum, the fuel tank was flushed and the carburetor rebuilt, while a new battery with the proper hold-down was installed. A new convertible soft top was also fitted, further enhancing both its presentation and usability. Period-appropriate equipment and accessories complement the Roadster's handsome appearance. A single side-mounted spare is protected by a polished aluminum cover, while a Ford Motometer radiator cap, Ford Twolite headlamps, and Sparton horn add authentic vintage character. Goodyear Safety All-Weather wide whitewall tires are mounted on the painted wire spoke wheels, and the car is equipped with glass wind wings, an outside rearview mirror, vacuum-powered windshield wiper, sidestep plates, and a rear luggage rack. With its attractive period color combination, authentic mechanical specification, beautifully restored presentation, and final-year Model A significance, this 1931 Ford Roadster offers an especially appealing opportunity to own one of Ford's most important early automobiles. Its 11-year tenure with a dedicated collector, excellent physical condition, and recent recommissioning at the St. Louis Car Museum make it ready for continued enjoyment, whether displayed proudly at a local gathering or exercised on the open road as Henry Ford intended.
