1987 Mercedes Benz 300E AMG Coupe. One great looking 80s Mercedes not sold new in Canada. This one was imported from Australia and features right hand drive, a Mercedes 3.0 liter straight six and a 4-speed automatic transmission. At the time AMG was a stand along performance business, not like it is today, where AMG is owned by Mercedes. The most famous example of this car is know as the Hammer where a V8 is transplanted in. This is a tamer example sporting upgrades to suspension, and esthetic upgrades like front and rear facias, side skirt and wheel upgrades done by AMG but it still features the original inline 6 cylinder with around 177 hp. Its largely cosmetic, but the car still looks killer cool and it is a true AMG! Coming from a warm climate the car is in excellent shape apart from the odd scrape or scratch and a small bit of rash to the front lower spoiler. It appears to be rust free. Its also lavishly equipped with options like headlight wipers, leather upholstery, real wood interior trim, and 10-way powered bucket seats, each with 2-position memory " almost unheard of in the 80s! The interior may have suffered a little in the sun down under, with a few cracks on the dash and a bit of deterioration of the leather steering wheel. Seats and carpets though are still fair. The car features power folding rear seat headrests, a powered rear passenger window shade, A/C, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power sunroof, ABS brakes and CD changer in the trunk. The interior is a nice place to be and it still has the same leather scent of any old Mercedes. Under the hood is neat and tidy. The mono-wiper is a neat feature too, wiping almost all of the windshield, despite only having a single wiper. The standing hood ornament is also classic Mercedes. The car shows 120,000 kms, which thanks to 6-digits is believed to be accurate. Still not a lot for a 39 year old car. It takes a moment to get used to the turn signal lever on the right side of the steering wheel, but the car is very enjoyable to drive, very smooth and refined. One things for sure, in this country an 87 AMG Benz is also very rare!
