Description:
This 1966 Dodge Dart two-door hardtop is one of a reported 50 units that were produced by Chrysler for competition in the NHRA and AHRA D/Stock classes. Known as the ""D/Dart"", the cars came with a 273ci V8 with a special camshaft, valve springs, intake manifold, Holley carburetor, air cleaner, dual-point distributor, and Doug's exhaust headers as well as a Weber Speed Equipment clutch for the four-speed manual transmission plus a Sure-Grip rear end with 4.86:1 gearing. This example is said to have been purchased new from North Motors of Springfield, Ohio, and was acquired by the selling dealer in mid-2026. Finished in white over red vinyl upholstery, the vehicle also features Cragar 14 wheels, M&H Racemaster rear tires, drum brakes, front bucket seats, and a tachometer. A 13-page Technical Service Bulletin from Dodge detailing the D66-HP-1 Maximum Performance Dart Drag Package and dated April 18, 1966, is included in the sale and shown in the photo gallery along with other related documentation, one of which is an April 11, 1966, Confidential Price Bulletin from Dodge.
Interior:
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in red vinyl. Equipment includes front vent windows, a padded dashboard, bright trim, red carpeting, and sun visors. The two-spoke steering wheel has a horn ring and frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and alternator status. A tachometer is affixed to the steering column, and a Stewart-Warner oil-pressure gauge is stationed beneath the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 28k miles, and approximately 20 miles have been driven by the selling dealer.
Exterior:
The car was finished from the factory in White (WW1). Exterior equipment includes a bright grille and trim, Dart and GT badging, a driver-side mirror, reverse lights, and chrome bumpers. Imperfections in the trim are detailed in the seller's video provided below.
Drivetrain:
The 273ci V8 was modified from the factory with the following equipment:
Part-number 2843919 solid-lifter camshaft (284 duration, .495 intake lift, .505 exhaust lift)
Racer Brown higher-load valve springs
Modified intake manifold w/Holley adapter plate
Holley 4160 four-barrel carburetor
Updated air cleaner
Dual-point distributor without vacuum advance
Doug's Headers tubular exhaust headers with Y-pipe adapter
The Dodge Division advertised a rating of 275 horsepower for the LO23 setup in the Dart.
The four-speed manual transmission in LO23 cars was teamed with a Weber Speed Equipment clutch and an 8"" rear end with a Sure-Grip limited-slip differential and 4.86:1 gears. The dual exhaust system terminates ahead of the rear axle.
