This 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is a first-year, black-on-black coupe with the 6-speed manual transmission, showing 7,200 miles from new. Power comes from the supercharged 6.2L LSA V8, rated by Chevrolet at 580 horsepower and 556 lb-ft of torque, sent rearward through the TR6060 6-speed manual and a limited-slip differential. The dual-mode performance exhaust is factory equipment, opening up under load and staying civil at cruise. This is the combination most ZL1 buyers now specifically seek out, since a meaningful share of fifth-generation cars were built with the automatic.
The chassis hardware is what separated the ZL1 from the rest of the fifth-generation lineup. Magnetic Ride Control was standard, marking its first application on a Camaro, and works alongside Performance Traction Management and Chevrolet's electric power steering setup. Brembo performance brakes sit behind 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. The car was ordered with the exposed carbon fiber weave hood insert, a $600 option offset by a factory discount of the same amount on the window sticker, so it carries the exposed weave rather than the painted insert most ZL1s wear. HID headlamps, fog lamps, heated power mirrors, and the rear spoiler round out the exterior.
Inside, the black interior includes leather-appointed heated front seats with power adjustment, head-up display, the auxiliary gauge cluster with boost readout, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, premium audio with Bluetooth and USB, rear vision camera, rear parking assist, and metal pedal covers. The dealer-installed premium carpeted floor mats and cargo mat listed on the sticker were part of the original order.
The ZL1 name traces back to the 1969 COPO Camaros built with the all-aluminum 427, and Chevrolet held it back until it had a car worth putting it on. For 2012 the ZL1 arrived as a coupe only, with the convertible following for 2013, making this a first-year example of the model. Between the mileage, the two-owner history, the manual transmission, and a documentation package that includes the build sheets and the plant note, this is about as complete as a preserved fifth-generation ZL1 gets.
