1970 Plymouth GTX

Description:

The Plymouth GTX has long been known as the ""gentleman's muscle car."" When it debuted, it offered the brute force of Mopar's biggest engines with a more refined, better-appointed interior than its Road Runner sibling. In 1970, it retained that formula while adopting fresh styling and performance features like the functional Air Grabber hood. This particular example takes that concept further, combining a high-quality frame-off restoration with a serious restomod build that delivers both visual polish and staggering performance. This GTX spent decades in the hands of a long-time owner who had already invested in keeping it as a clean B5 Blue example with a white vinyl roof and white stripes. Potentially a restored car before its transformation, it was stripped to bare metal during a full rebuild and reimagined into a high-horsepower, modernized street machine. Every surface was meticulously prepped and smoothed, with consistent gaps throughout. The vinyl roof was removed for a cleaner profile, and the body was refinished in its original B5 Bright Blue Metallic. The bright blue paint is paired with black side and hood stripes for a purposeful, aggressive look, and the functional Air Grabber hood is fully operational, channeling fresh air to the powerplant beneath. Since completion, this GTX has lived as a ""garage queen,"" pampered in climate-controlled storage and still showing exceptionally well today. Chrome bumpers with front bumper guards remain clean and straight, while the stainless trim is equally sharp. A staggered set of chrome Boyd Coddington wheels fills the wheel wells, measuring 17x9 inches up front and 18x11 inches in the rear, wrapped in Nitto NT555 Extreme tires sized 245mm in the front and 285mm in the rear. The stance is both muscular and balanced, befitting the performance underneath. That performance starts with a 472 cubic inch HEMI V8 professionally built by Mark Dudley Performance. Internally, the engine carries an Eagle crankshaft, Manley rods, JE pistons, and ARP fasteners for strength. Aluminum Indy cylinder heads sit up top, breathing through a pair of Holley four-barrel carburetors. The combination is rated at 770 horsepower. Polished aluminum valve covers and traditional-style HEMI covers with custom ""472"" callouts add visual impact, while MSD ignition ensures reliable spark. A coated exhaust system with long-tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers delivers both free-flowing performance and an unmistakable muscle car soundtrack. Cooling comes from an aluminum radiator by Wizard Cooling with four electric fans, and large-diameter stainless braided hoses with AN fittings complete the professional-grade engine bay. Power is sent through an A833 4-speed manual transmission to a Dana 60 rear axle equipped with 4.10 Richmond gears, a limited-slip differential, and Strange axles. Aerospace Components four-wheel disc brakes bring confident stopping power, while adjustable QA1 suspension with rear coilovers keep it planted. The interior retains the GTX's period-correct upscale styling. White vinyl bucket seats flank a woodgrain-trimmed center console, with a matching rear bench behind them. The dash features woodgrain accents and the standard GTX Rally gauge cluster, which keeps the driver well-informed. Black carpeting is protected by custom GTX-branded floor mats. The original 8-track player still resides in the dash, and for modern convenience a hidden Pioneer CD player with SiriusXM capability has been discreetly installed. The overall presentation is clean, inviting, and true to the GTX's ""gentleman's muscle car"" identity. Accompanied by a restoration photo album and extensive build receipts, this 1970 Plymouth GTX is a monster that is ready to be enjoyed. It presents as if the restoration was completed only months ago thanks to careful, pampered ownership. With its combination of show-quality presentation, incredible mechanical specification, and rare B5 Bright Blue heritage, this GTX is the kind of car that will stand out in a sea of Camaros and Mustangs at the next cruise-in.
