1939 Ford Standard
Own a truly unique piece of American automotive history with this 1939 Ford Standard, a beautifully crafted all-steel custom that blends timeless pre-war styling with proven hot rod performance. Originally built in the late 1960s in West Seneca, New York, this iconic Ford has been lovingly cared for by its current owner since 2003, with a comprehensive renovation completed in 2007. The paint, also completed in 2007, remains an attractive driver-quality finish with only minor nicks and scratches acquired through years of enjoyment.
Beginning life as a junkyard body and frame, this Ford was transformed using new old stock 1938 Ford steel fenders and extensive custom metalwork. The builder seamlessly molded the fenders into the body, frenched the taillights, recessed the license plate and power antenna, and removed the exterior trim along with the hood and trunk handles, creating a smooth, clean appearance that perfectly captures the spirit of traditional hot rodding.
Power comes from a professionally rebuilt 1968 Chevrolet 327 cubic-inch V8, rebuilt in 2005 with a .030-over bore, a mild performance camshaft, and an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, providing dependable power and classic V8 sound. Shifting is handled by a reliable GM TH350 automatic transmission, while a 1957 Oldsmobile rear axle, retained from the original build, puts the power to the pavement.
The suspension has been modernized with a TCI Mustang II independent front suspension featuring a manual rack-and-pinion steering system, providing significantly improved handling and drivability. Braking is equally capable with GM front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, while American Racing five-spoke wheels wrapped in new tires complete the timeless hot rod stance. Inside, a set of vintage Stewart Warner Green Line gauges adds the perfect finishing touch to this classic custom.
Whether you're looking for a dependable cruiser, an award-worthy show car, or a professionally built traditional hot rod with decades of history, this 1939 Ford Standard offers outstanding craftsmanship, proven reliability, and unmistakable style.
