1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302

Description:

1970 Ford Boss 302 For Sale - Factory Grabber Orange, Factory Shaker, Numbers Matching Engine
LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1970 Ford Boss 302 Ford’s Boss 302 was conceived as a no-nonsense performance weapon, built to take direct aim at Chevrolet’s Camaro Z/28 both on the street and on the track. Developed specifically for competition in the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans-Am series, the Boss 302 proved that reduced weight, precise handling, and intelligent engineering could outperform brute force. At its heart was a specially modified 302-cubic-inch V-8 rated at 290 horsepower, paired with a competition-bred suspension, quicker steering, and F60x15 tires—creating a Mustang that was equally at home carving corners or cruising public roads. Its success in the showroom mirrored its dominance on the circuit, offering buyers a true race-bred car with real-world drivability. Contemporary road tests confirmed the Boss 302’s dual-purpose brilliance. In its February 1970 issue, Car & Driver praised the car’s refinement and composure, noting that it was “quiet and exudes quality, very much like an expensive European GT car.” The magazine went on to highlight the stiffness and control of the suspension, emphasizing the absence of rattles or flex even over rough pavement. Performance figures were equally impressive, with the Boss 302 completing the quarter-mile in 14.9 seconds at 93.4 mph. In full Trans-Am specification, the Boss 302 would ultimately secure the Manufacturer’s Championship for Ford in 1970. According to its Marti Report, this Boss 302 was originally delivered to HP Smith Motors Inc. of Omaha, Nebraska, and retains its numbers-matching engine. It was assembled at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan, plant and completed on March 23, 1970. Finished in its striking factory Grabber Orange, this Boss 302 is further equipped with Black Clarion Knit and Corinthian vinyl bucket seats, a 3.91 Trac-Lok rear axle, four-speed manual transmission, F60x15 belted white-letter tires, Factory Shaker hood scoop, center console, power steering, AM radio, Décor Group, and Magnum 500 chrome wheels. The rotisserie restoration was carried out to a high standard, with an emphasis on correctness throughout. The body was stripped to bare metal, allowing every component of the chassis, underbody, and suspension to be meticulously inspected, restored, and detailed. Correct finishes, fasteners, and hardware were used wherever applicable, ensuring authenticity down to the smallest detail. The result is a Boss 302 that presents as it would have when new, with exceptional fit and finish. Presented in outstanding condition throughout, one of the most desirable factory color combinations with some of the most sought-after factory options. This outstanding example represents the pinnacle of Ford’s Trans-Am era and would make a compelling addition to any serious Ford or muscle car collection.
