1974 Suzuki Titan 500
VIN: T50077024
The Titan 500 is an unusual bike: A two stroke that feels like a four stroke – or, as Motorcycle Sport put it in a July '74 article, “a big small machine”. The Titan 500 twin, while predictably lighter than its four stroke counterparts, also departs from its two stroke brethren on several counts: It has a broad rather than narrow power band with lots of torque between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm, its over engineered engine boasts bulletproof reliability, and its 35-40mpg fuel consumption is remarkably low for a large bore two stroke. With twin carbs and coupled to a 5 speed it won more than its share of production races, while its automatic oil injection, comfortable riding position, durability and broad power range made it popular with the touring folk as well.
The example you see here was purchased by the current owner in 2016, with 30,700 miles showing on the odometer. The bike has stock exhaust pipes, fenders and wheels, all in good condition. The tank and side covers and tailpiece have been repainted in the original Maui Blue Metallic with Gold pinstripe factory colors. While a clubman solo seat and tailpiece have been fitted, the original seat in good condition also comes with the bike.
At 31,150 miles the engine was refreshed with a new oil pump, top end (.050 pistons/rings/wrist pins, etc.), and rebuilt carbs. (All receipts and service records are included.) The bike has been carefully maintained and ridden only 700 miles since, and the speedometer now shows 31,851 miles.
