2005 Harley 883 Sportster
VIN: 1HD4CAM105K427433
1,575 Original Miles!
When Harley debuted its 883 Sportster in 1957 it was the hottest thing on the market, more than ready to compete with the 650 twins that the British had to offer. Nearly 70 years later it is still a fixture in the Harley stable, though some now view it as an entry level bike. (There is an easy remedy for this, however, as the 883 shares the same bottom end as its 1200cc big brother: Simply swap out the pistons and cylinder heads and voila – you have a 1200 Sportster!)
The '05 model has several improvements over its predecessors, most notably a rubber mounted drivetrain that dramatically reduces vibration. (Though it still has that distinctively Harley V-Twin low frequency vibe, much like that of a relaxing motel Barco Lounger – just feed your quarters into the gas pump) – and not at all like the annoying high frequency vibration put out by the Japanese multis. It also features a 5 speed transmission, low maintenance long lasting belt drive good for 50k to 100k miles, lots of low end grunt, and notably good 48-57mpg gas mileage, which allows for a 125-175 miles of effortless 70-75mpg cruising between fill ups of its beautifully styled 3-1/3 gallon fuel tank.
The example that you see here is a very unusual Sportster, in that it is a totally unmolested all original bike devoid of any “improvements”, cosmetic or otherwise, save for a leather tool bag attached to the triple tree at the top of the front forks (see photo). Looking and performing as though it sprang totally intact from a time machine it is totally stock, save only for the addition of its (original) Black Cherry Pearl paint, an optional factory color that really makes the bike pop. It is equipped with a solo seat, but a passenger pillion and passenger foot pegs also come with the sale. The bike received a complete service at 600 miles, again at 1,000 miles, and in 2015 new tires were installed at 1,500 miles. It has been carefully maintained and ridden sparingly since, and currently the odometer reads a low, low 1,575 miles. (All maintenance and service records are provided with the sale.)
