When Jaguar's E-type (or XKE as it was called for North America) debuted for 1961, the car's design was so striking that it is widely claimed that Enzo Ferrari himself proclaimed it as the most beautiful car ever made. But it wasn't just a handsome face as this Jaguar was a great performer thanks to its turbine-smooth and potent inline six. No wonder then, that an E-type is a favorite choice for car enthusiasts who love putting a car through its paces. Here we have a 1971 Jaguar E-type which represents the last year for the legendary straight six, as it would be replaced by the complex V12 later in the model year. Finished in gleaming Old English White, the Jag's body is straight and solid as is the underside and trunk. The various chrome and stainless-steel trim also presents very well and the convertible top appears to have been replaced recently, given its excellent condition. Further enhancing the car's curbside appeal is a set of knock-off wire wheels fitted with recent Cooper tires. The mostly restored interior looks great, with the French Blue upholstery and real wood steering wheel adding to the car's very special feel. Apart from the worn passenger's grab handle and missing driver's window winder knob, the interior is in overall excellent condition from the convertible top down to the carpet. Under the long bonnet is the stout 4.2-liter inline six that's been given a boost in power with an upgrade to triple SU carburetion (the original carbs also go with the car). It sends the power to the rear wheels via a slick-shifting 4-speed manual gearbox. With four-wheel disc brakes, reigning in the effortless speed is swift and sure. Handling is confident as well, with precise steering and a slightly firm suspension that keeps the car flat in the corners while remaining composed and quiet when encountering bumps and ruts. To say this car is a blast to drive would be a big understatement! Boasting a binder full of receipts attesting to over $30,000 spent for the excellent care that the car has received, this well-sorted E-type makes for a great value. If you're looking for a sharp, fun to drive classic Jaguar sports car that doesn't require spending six figures, you've found your car.
