Introduced at the dawn of a new decade, the 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi marked an important evolution in the lineage of one of Maranellos most recognizable road cars. Originally unveiled in 1975 as the 308 GTB, the model was Ferraris successor to the Dino 246, designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina. Its sharp, wedge-shaped styling and mid-engine layout quickly defined the look of a modern Ferrari. By 1977, the open-top GTS variant arrived, featuring a removable targa roof panel that gave the thrill of open-air driving. The i designation, introduced for the 1980 model year, signified a major mechanical change, the adoption of Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection in place of Weber carburetors. This transition was driven largely by tightening emissions regulations, particularly in the United States. The new system improved reliability and drivability and kept the horsepower very modest. Power came from a 2.9-litre V-8 engine mounted transversely behind the cockpit, paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, delivering the engaging driving experience expected of a Ferrari. Production of the fuel-injected 308 GTSi spanned from 1980 through 1982, during which approximately 1,750 examples were built. This relatively short production run makes the GTSi a distinct chapter within the broader 308 series, bridging the gap between the early carbureted cars and the later, Quattrovalvole models introduced in 1982. Beyond its mechanical and design significance, the 308 GTSi achieved enduring fame through its starring role in the hit television series Magnum, P.I.. Driven by Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum, the bright red Ferrari became synonymous with the carefree, adventurous lifestyle depicted on screen. Week after week, the car was showcased against the scenic backdrop of Hawaii, cementing its place in popular culture. For many enthusiasts, the 308 GTSi was more than just a car, it was *the* Ferrari. Its unmistakable silhouette adorned bedroom walls as a quintessential poster car of the 1980s, inspiring a generation of automotive passion that endures to this day. Long-term owners, the Dane Miller Collection acquired this 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi in December of 1990 from the Classic Car Centre of Warsaw, who bought it from Bruce Pelynio of Maine in the same year. A first-year example of the GTSi model, its finished in quintessential colors of Rosso Corsa over a tan interior. Features of this Ferrari include 16-inch Campagnolo alloy wheels, a Nardi steering wheel, Blaupunkt stereo with a tape deck, and a period Blaupunkt channel searcher, adding to the nostalgic look and feel. Often regarded as the epitome of a drivers car, as they deliver wonderful road manners, this 308 GTSi features a V-8 engine with Bosch Motronic fuel injection and is backed by a five-speed manual transaxle. Accompanying the sale of this Ferrari is a tool roll kit. A true symbol of Ferraris heritage and offered for the first time in 36 years, this 308 GTSi presents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a poster car that delivers a truly engaging driving experience and is one of the most recognizable and celebrated Ferrari models of all time. * Acquired by The Dane Miller Collection 36 years ago * A culture icon as the Ferrari model used in the Magnum P.I. series * Classic colors paired with a removable targa roof for open-air enjoyment * 1 of approximately 1,750 fuel-injected examples built over a limited three-year production run From the Kruse Auctions
