1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 4-speed. No expenses spared with the restoration of this one! Beautiful blue paint with show quality chrome and bright work. Craigars fit the look of the car just right. From the exterior youd swear you were looking at a brand new 1966. This is a US car with a 138 VIN, meaning a guaranteed true SS car with a 396 big block. The engine in this one has no stampings on the serial number pad indicating it was a replacement block under warranty. Thats common with these cars as a lot of guys blew them up when they were new and had to have their local dealer drop in another replacement engine. At the time, engine blocks replaced under warranty were often not stamped at all. In later years, CE stamped blocks indicated a warranty block. Its unknown which version (L35, L34, or L78) of the 396 is in this car despite the 275 hp sticker on the air cleaner. A few things have been upgraded on this one including a Wilwood master cylinder (still manual brakes) as well as headers that sound great, an aluminum intake, new carb and MSD ignition. All worthwhile upgrades. The M21 Muncie 4-speed still sits behind the 396 and a 12-bolt rear end is out back. True SS features. Factory power steering with remote reservoir is in place. The engine bay is neat and tidy. The all black interior is once again very nice and its clear that everything is new, or at least properly restored if it is original. Upholstery and headliner are very well done, theres new carpets and the dash is crack free. The steering wheel ds require attention, but that will be completed shortly. This car was ordered with the optional full gauge cluster with Fuel, oil pressure, charging and temp gauges and shows 31,000 miles. With only 5 digits on the odometer, true milage is unknown. It also has the very rare and original Knee Knocker tachometer which works flawlessly. Theres a new Retro Sound radio in place of the original, the heater works as it should and below that are 3 aftermarket gauges for more accurate monitoring. The center console features the optional clock too as well as the Hurst handle shifter. The trunk will receive some detailing at our shop, but its in good condition, however the spare, jack and tire iron are not in place. On the whole, this car is in amazing condition and 66 is the one to have! Car runs great and drives very well.
