With its combination of handsome styling backed up by big block power, the 1967 Chevelle SS 396 has long been a favorite of muscle car fans. Underneath the bulging hood came a standard 325-horsepower, 396 cubic-inch V8 with even more power available. This true 138 SS boasts a rock-solid body whose original Tahoe Turquoise color was changed to Tuxedo Black. That high-quality refinish looks as if you could dip your hand into it and the various chrome and stainless-steel trim likewise looks brilliant. The underside and trunk are also in very good shape. A set of Rally wheels wearing B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As completes the car's considerable curb appeal. Nicely complementing that black body is a crisp red interior (the original was the much more common black) that features bucket seats, a center console and full instruments including the addition of an old-school-style column-mounted tach. Under the hood, the original 396 V8 has been replaced by a burly and built 454 with a solid lifter cam, MSD ignition, ceramic-coted headers and dual exhaust. That muscular mill sends its power through the 4-speed manual transmission and on out to the 4.10-geared 12-bolt rear end. Manual steering and manual front disc brakes make for an engaging drive, and to say this car is a thrill would be a massive understatement.
