As the cornerstone division of General Motors, Buick offered Series 23 models in both four-and six-cylinder variants, wheelbase sizes ranging from 109 to 124 inches, and prices from $865 to $2,200. Styling changes for the model year included crowned fenders, new drum-shaped headlamps, and cowl lights. The new grille design would remain virtually unchanged through 1927. Chassis improvements included repositioned rear spring hangers, a transmission lock, and a lowered suspension. Buick produced over 210,000 vehicles in 1923, a more than 70% increase over the prior year. On March 21st of 1923, Buick built its one-millionth car.
The Buick Series 23's were available in a wide array of 15 open and closed body styles including roadster, touring sedan, sedan, and tourer. The touring body style was the most popular with 45,227 examples produced.
This 1923 Buick 23-45 4-door Tourer is a fine example, and the car is in very good condition. It has been stored inside and primarily driven at local shows and parades. The interior has two reupholstered black leather bench seats, wooden steering wheel, and black carpeting which are all in excellent condition. On the exterior the canvas top is in great condition and shows well. The exterior maroon and black has been professionally painted in the past and is free of any major chips or scratches.
The 242 cubic inch, straight-6 engine put out ~60 HP when new. This engine is in good condition, with plenty of power, and does not smoke. The mated transmission shifts into all three gears, and reverse, without issue. These Buick's were designed with rear brakes only, and they work well on this car.
Overall, this is a great looking car and gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. The car runs and drives well, is in very good condition, and is a lot of fun to drive around on a nice day.
