This 1989 Ford Mustang is #688 of 734 examples modified by Saleen Autosport for the model year and just one of nine convertible examples to be produced with these options.
Interior:
The cabin features Flo-Fit front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in Grey Titanium cloth with red piping. Saleen Mustang lettering is embroidered on the floor mats and door panels, while additional interior elements include a storage compartment in the center armrest, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, locks, and mirrors, and a Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer. A plaque located ahead of the shifter indicates that this car was #668 modified by Saleen Autosport for the 1989 model year. The three-spoke MOMO steering wheel wears a Ford-logo horn button and frames Saleen-branded instrumentation including a 170-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary readouts for battery voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 11k miles.
Exterior:
The car is finished in Oxford White with a white convertible soft top, a grey top boot, and black side moldings. Saleen modifications included side graphics, a rear spoiler, rocker extensions, and revised front and rear valances relative to the contemporary Mustang LX. Drivetrain:
A three-point strut tower bar spans the engine bay of the 5.0-liter high-output V8, which features sequential multi-port fuel injection and was factory rated at 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok differential with a 3.55:1 gearing. Aftermarket exhaust components have been installed. The 18"" modular five-spoke wheels wear Saleen-logo center caps and are mounted with Landsail LS588 UHP tires measuring 225/40 up front and 265/35 at the rear. As part of the Saleen package, the car was outfitted with a Racecraft suspension that included gas-pressurized front struts and rear quad shocks. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.
