1965 Pontiac GTO For Sale
This 1965 Pontiac GTO comes out of long-term single-family ownership and pairs a mostly original presentation with a period-style Pontiac powertrain upgrade. 1965 was the GTO's second year and the debut of the stacked quad headlights, back when the GTO was still an option package on the LeMans rather than its own model. Finished in red over a white interior, this one has stayed in the same family for decades and now runs a later big-inch Pontiac engine in place of the original 389.
Power comes from a 455 cubic inch (7.5L) Pontiac V8 pulled from a 1973 car, topped with an Edelbrock intake manifold, carburetor, and air filter for straightforward airflow and fuel delivery. Behind it is a Muncie 4-speed with a Hurst shifter, feeding a 3.55-geared rear end, with true dual exhaust finishing the setup. It fires right up at the turn of the key and shifts smoothly, so it drives the way a Pontiac 4-speed car should.
Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. Inside, the car keeps its original white interior, supplemented with a set of aftermarket gauges for water temperature, amps, and oil pressure, plus an AutoMeter tachometer for keeping tabs on the engine.
On provenance, the current owner has had the car for 31 years and bought it from his nephew, who owned it for the 12 years before that, giving it more than four decades of ownership within one family. The current red paint was applied around that same 31-year mark. The Fisher Body cowl tag identifies a Baltimore-assembled LeMans body, consistent with a genuine 1965 GTO. Between the original interior, the Pontiac 455 and 4-speed combination, and the long single-family history, this is a well-sorted example for a buyer who wants a real one to drive and enjoy.
