1967 BMW R60 Motorcycle
"The BMW R60/2 was a family of motorcycles that was introduced in 1960. The R60/2 was largely an improved and more powerful version of the BMW R60, featuring the same engine, but with an output of 30hp from the 600cc horizontally opposed twin powerplant. These shaft drive motorcycles were equipped with a 4-speed transmission, and in production until 1969. A variation of the R60/2 featuring telescopic forks was introduced in 1968 under the name BMW R60US." Classic.com
For consignment, a 1967 BMW R60 motorcycle showing 23,128 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one presents in very nice condition with nearly flawless features, but has just come out of some long term storage so expect to turn a few wrenches before you ride.
Exterior
A beautiful blend of black and metal is visible to the world on this bike's square profile. Knee pads flank the black tank outlined with a white pinstripe that also embellishes the fenders while matching cream and white piping on the black saddle is a fantastic harmonization of design. S&S exhaust has been added to this example and they're intertwined with the added chrome engine guards that loop slightly wider than the boxer engine. That engine, and the drum brakes, take on more of a magnesium color departing from the polished metals and glossy covers we've become accustomed to. There's a guard over the headlight, which is rimmed in chrome and housed in black and a single round tail light also rides solo without the flanking marker lights.
Functionality
The headlight housing is also home to the singular gauge, a speedometer with odometer and trip odometer included. Patina shows on the simple controls near the grips but everything is intact. A polished gas cap tops the tank with finger knurls and a BMW engraving. Foot pegs are provided for driver and passenger and the chrome wire wheels are each 18 inches.
Drivetrain
This BMW is equipped with a 594cc Boxer 2 rated at 30 horsepower and fueled by dual Bing 24mm 1-barrel carburetors. A 4-speed manual puts this bike into gear, transferring power via a shaft drive to the rear wheels. Drum brakes are front and rear and suspension is composed of an Earles Style swingarm with oil pressure shocks up front and swing arm with oil pressure shocks in back.
