With approximately 200 shakedown miles since completion, the truck represents a fresh build rather than an older restoration that has simply been updated. Body & Paint One of the most important details of this build is the finish. What may initially appear to be a primer-style surface is not primer. The body was taken down to bare metal, extensively prepped and smoothed, then finished in PPG turquoise paint under a satin clear coat. The result gives the truck a soft, understated finish while still providing the protection and depth of a completed paint system. The exterior retains the classic 3100 profile with its rounded fenders, split windshield, five-window cab, running boards, horizontal chrome grille, chrome bumpers and embossed Chevrolet tailgate. The satin turquoise finish is carried across the cab, fenders, running boards and pickup bed for a cohesive presentation. Engine & Drivetrain Power comes from a 355 cubic-inch small-block Chevrolet V8 fitted with an ACES electronic fuel-injection system, combining traditional small-block character with the improved cold-starting and drivability benefits of modern EFI. The engine is backed by a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission. A polished March Performance serpentine accessory drive adds both function and a clean finished appearance to the engine compartment. Suspension & Chassis This truck was built around a significantly modernized chassis rather than relying on its original suspension configuration. Up front is a Scott's Hotrods independent front suspension system with coilovers. The detailed suspension photography shows the tubular control-arm layout, coilover assembly and modern brake hardware. Out back, the truck utilizes a TCI four-link suspension with coilovers, providing a much more sophisticated rear suspension arrangement than the original leaf-spring design. The chassis has also been painted as part of the build, complementing the detailed mechanical presentation underneath. The combination of the Scott's front suspension, TCI four-link rear and four-wheel coilovers is responsible for the truck's low, aggressive stance while providing a far more contemporary chassis configuration. Brakes, Wheels & Tires Stopping performance has also been upgraded substantially with Wilwood front disc brakes and GM rear disc brakes. The truck rides on 20-inch Ridler wheels with a modern multi-spoke design and polished outer lips. They are wrapped in brand-new low-profile performance tires, filling the original-style rounded wheel openings while complementing the lowered suspension. Interior & Comfort The interior has been completely reworked with a Snowden interior package, including the seating, custom door panels and headliner. Rather than simply recovering the seats, the cabin was treated as a complete part of the build. The entire interior was also Dynamatted and sound deadened, helping reduce road, drivetrain and exterior noise while giving the truck a more finished driving environment. A Gen V Vintage Air system provides modern heating and air conditioning, making this 3100 far more usable in changing weather than a stock 1950 pickup. Bed & Finishing Details The pickup bed is finished with a walnut bed floor, providing a warm contrast against the turquoise satin exterior and adding another custom detail to the build. A new fuel tank was also installed during construction. The photographs show a truck that maintains many of the defining visual elements that make the Advance Design Chevrolet so recognizable, while its stance and mechanical hardware make clear that this is a purpose-built restomod. With a 355ci Chevrolet V8, ACES EFI, TH350 automatic, Scott's front suspension, TCI four-link rear, four-wheel coilovers, Wilwood/GM disc brakes, Gen V Vintage Air, Snowden interior, walnut bed and approximately 200 shakedown miles, this 1950 Chevrolet 3100 delivers the classic look of an early Chevrolet pickup with a substantially modernized foundation. |
